Agua Fresca literally translates to "fresh water." Growing up in South Florida Agua Frescas were a popular alternative to plain water and sodas on a hot afternoon in Latin and Caribbean communities.
I rediscovered Agua Fresca again back in 2014, with a trip to Puerto Rico. The tropical heat was brutal and the fruit frescas were life saving (laugh). They were thirst quenching, ice cold, and delicious. My favorite was the watermelon-lime.
Recently, I was thinking about the ripe watermelon I had on my kitchen counter. I was immediately transported back to my childhood, and the journey to Puerto Rico.
Agua Frescas are easily made at home, and any ripe fruit is fair game.
