Shrimp in a Classic Vodka Cream Sauce

Shrimp in a Classic Vodka Cream Sauce

There’s something about a creamy vodka sauce that never goes out of style. It’s rich, comforting, and just the right balance of tomato and cream — especially when paired with tender shrimp and perfectly cooked pasta. For this version, we used our new Pastabilities heart-shaped pasta for a little extra charm, but you could just as easily swap in the Springtime Flowers or Bunny Hop shapes for a fun seasonal twist. No matter which shape you choose, this Shrimp in Vodka Cream Sauce is a simple, crowd-pleasing dish that feels special without being complicated — exactly the kind of recipe we love making on a weeknight or serving to friends.

Shrimp in a Classic Vodka Cream Sauce

Ingredients

  • 14 oz bag of Heart Pasta (or another short shape), you'll use approx. 1/2 the bag

  • 2 T. olive oil

  • 1 yellow or Vidalia onion, chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, sliced

  • 1 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes

  • 1/4 cup vodka

  • Pinch of red pepper flakes

  • 1 lb. medium or large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 t. kosher salt

  • 1/4 t. black pepper

  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil

  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated + more for garnish

Directions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions, drain, rinse, toss with 1 T. olive oil. Set aside.

  2. In the meantime, heat 1 T. oil in a large saute pan, and add onions and saute until translucent, approx. 3-4 minutes.  Add sliced garlic, and saute an additional 30 seconds, until fragrant.

  3. Add tomatoes, vodka, and red pepper flakes and bring to a simmer.  Cover and reduce the heat to low, and cook for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Add shrimp, cream, salt, and pepper, and stir, uncovered. Cook until shrimp are cooked through, about 5-6 minutes.

  5. Add cooked pasta (add about half the pasta and save the rest for another night, or after school snack!) , fresh basil, and Parmesan cheese.  Gently combine!

  6. Serve with additional fresh basil and grated Parm! Enjoy!
